Refrigerated bodies available at Kleyn
Insulated or refrigerated bodies are available for products that have to be transported at a controlled temperature such as flowers, vegetables and ice-cream. The floor, walls and roof of a refrigerated body are filled with an insulating material, in most cases polyurethane. Nearly all insulated semi-trailers and box-body trucks are equipped with a cooling unit that blows air into the load compartment. We call this a refrigerated body or a refrigerated truck. In spite of the name, this unit can also supply heat. Most cooling units on refrigerated bodies offer a range of -20°C to +20°C. The insulated body often takes the form of a box structure (rigid walls) with doors. Refrigerated trucks can also be built with sliding side curtains. These are not however type-approved for transporting merchandise that must be kept below freezing during the journey.

Vehicles must comply with the regulations that Europe has drawn up with regard to transporting perishable merchandise (mainly food). Only health authorities with special powers are authorised to inspect and test these refrigerated vehicles. The regulations have been drawn up by ATP Europe. Hence the term ATP certificate.
ATP certification is available for three categories.
- FRA: Refrigerated body fitted with a cooling system where the temperature is selectable between +12˚C and 0˚C at an average outside temperature of +30˚C.
- FRB: Refrigerated body fitted with a cooling system where the temperature is selectable between +12˚C and -10˚C at an average outside temperature of +30˚C.
- FRC: Refrigerated body fitted with a cooling system where the temperature is selectable between +12˚C and -20˚C at an average outside temperature of +30˚C.
Most refrigerated trucks have FRC certification. Consequently, the descriptions for refrigerated trucks often include the designation ATP-FRC. It is important that you note the validity of FRC certification. For example, FRC 6-2011 means that the certificate is valid until June 2011.
